LPG certification

So the Lil Riv has a nice (vintage) 2 burner / grill Tudor LPG stove and a decommissioned gas fitting that was certified when the boat was built.

Understanding the risks of LPG on a petrol boat I wanted to have the system tested and certified before I used it. Finding a gas fitter to do this was WAY harder than expected. Finally I found Andrew at AKG Plumbing ( no website 0415942392) who tested the system, installed a new regulator installed a new certification plate.

Like all boat stories it seems this was not without issue. Andrew installed a POL filling and regulator (like a BBQ gas bottle). This would have been fine however the gas locker on the Riv is tiny and not even a 2kg bottle would fit – I tried and had to return the bottle…..

The answer was to change the fitting and regulators for one that uses/suits the disposable propane bottles (green ‘coleman’ bottles). I also use these for the BBQ so that’s a win – one fuel source for both BBQ and stove!
